Subject: Potomac River Downriver Challenge Wednesday Night Series, 2014 Edition

For the Second annual Downriver Challenge, Tom Berlin and I will actually
try to make it down the river.

On the 11th, 18th,and 25th of August, I will be running a SCORED Wednesday
night series on the Potomac, with AWARDS that is going to be a little
different from the normal Wednesday night series. Each evening will have a
total of three races. The first two races will be the normal around the
buoys. The third race will be a distance race, from the docks to the
flashing no-wake mark approximately 1 mile down the river towards
Alexandria and back, assuming there is enough breeze. The items governing
the series are below:

1. AWARDS: First place: a plaque and a ten dollar Starbucks gift
certificate, donated by WrenchMasters Auto Service of Rockville, MD. Last
place: A twelve-pack to the skipper who sails all races. Awards will be
awarded on the last Wednesday night of the series. Must be present to win.

2. The series is open to any boat sailing in the marina on a Wednesday
night. If multiple fleets are involved, the scorer will score using
Portsmouth corrected time. Alternatively, for large fleets, such as
Lightnings or Albacores that have more than three boats, there may be a
prize for each fleet.

3. The first start shall be at 6:15pm, on the water, off the dinghy
docks at the Washington Sailing Marina. No Le Mans starts.

4. This will be a low point series in accordance with the 2013-2016 RRS,
with the following exceptions below.

5. Every boat must have a skipper and a crew. "Crew" is qualified as a
person capable of performing the duties typically performed while racing
sailboat, regardless of their skill. Dogs, toddlers, mannequins, coolers
and such do not qualify as crew.

6. If you sail with the same crew every Wednesday night, your points are
doubled.

7. If you pick up crew or rotate crew off the dock, your points are
halved.

8. If you sail with a family member, fiancé, or other blood relative, or
your family member, fiancé, or blood relative sails on another boat in the
series, your points are halved.

9. If you have won a World Championship sailing event in the month of
August (any year), your points are automatically tripled.

10. Protests will be heard by a Protest Committee designated by Michael
Heinsdorf or Tom Berlin and must be heard that night. To avoid
inconveniencing the Protest Committee and to prevent the spread of West
Nile, Protests shall be he heard and judged at the after sailing venue
chosen by Diane Goebes, and the Protestor and Protestee shall be
responsible for buying the Protest Committee dinner.

11. Michael Heinsdorf (mheinsdorf at gmail.com) or Tom Berlin will make all
final decisions regarding this series.

Look forward to seeing you on the water!
