Subject: PRSA Spring Regatta: Important Information
Greetings PRSA Spring Regatta Participants!
We're writing to provide you with a bit of additional information regarding the PRSA Spring Regatta. As you probably know, PRSA operates out of Washington Sailing Marina (WSM), and WSM is actually on National Park grounds. This year, the U.S. Park Police have been more vigilant in enforcing a range of provisions on the park grounds related to parking, vending services, and other things. We want to make sure that everybody has a fun and problem-free regatta, so please take a second to read through the following info and let us know if you have any questions.
Registration: As it turns out, there is a federal provision that prohibits the exchange of money on National Park Grounds unless you are a contracted concessionaire (and PRSA is not). So, officially, we can't collect registration fees at the park. Therefore, we won't have a registration table set up. Instead, please go see Jeff Neurauter at his slip (I-20) and say good morning to him. He will have registration forms to fill out and you can slip him your fee in whatever sneaky way you want. If your going to pay by check, please fill it out (payable to PRSA) in advance. If your going to pay with cash, please have the exact amount.
Visiting Boats/Cars: Visiting boats do not need to pay launch and overnight fees. PRSA will cover the launch fees for the two days of the regatta and the overnight fees from Fri-Sat and Sat-Sun. Each visitor will need to sign-in on a sheet at the guard shack (listing your name, phone #, boat type & #, and the days/nights you will be at the marina). You will then receive a dated visitors pass that will allow you to park in the dry sail area for the regatta.
Parking: anybody parked in the dry sail area along the entry road needs to park "nose-in." Do not back in to those parking spots, or the Park Service will issue a $130 (!) ticket. Please do not park on the grass anywhere in the dry sail area, either, as the Park Service has been issuing tickets for that as well.
Beverages: officially, alcoholic beverages are not permitted on National Park Grounds. The Park Police have not given sailors or sailing groups any trouble here, but we would remind you to please be a bit discreet. Please do not walk around the parking area openly displaying open containers. Koozies for your cans or bottles would be a good idea. We will have beverages for the post-race BBQ in the grill area.
We look forward to seeing you at the regatta!
