Brendan,
The proposed schedule looks great. Including the YRA mini series looks good because it keeps our visibility up to other older local classes that may want to join us when they see how much fun we are having! This is the best way to maintain our fleet numbers by attracting experienced sailing teams to our class.
The nationals will most likely be July 6-8. I don't really have a strong urge to put together a pre-nationals. I will send out dates for other events there when I see TYC's schedule come out.

I like the idea of including the RYC sport boat regatta on the schedule. It is a fun place to sail and a good time of year for mellow conditions that bring out more of the fleet.
I think we should put a regatta or two more on the list that the Monterey Bay fleet sails (like Huntington) to encourage growth in that fleet and participation.

All races should count for the season championship including the Nationals. The distance serries should be a mini serries within the season championship races. We should make it easier to qualify for the championships because I believe that it will encourage further participation if more boats are in the running for them. If only 4 boats go to Huntington that's OK- they can then look on our wonderful website and see their boat name in contention for a championship in 2 catagories and will hopefully be encouraged to come north for some more races.

Here are some questions I’d love for everyone to answer:
Q: Did you get this mail (so I can make sure everyone got it)?
  Got it!
Q: Which of the above races would you expect to attend and/or think belong on the schedule?
The more the better. Maybe the throw out / qualifying schedule should be tweaked a bit for the more races. This years distances serries was weird because 20 somthing boats sailed in it but only 5 or so qualified. I think this will mostly be solved by making all races count for the season championship to bring up interest in the distance races.

Q: Which of these races do you think should be removed from the schedule?

Q: Are you willing to travel for any races other than the Ditch Run (ie, Spin Cup, Windjammers, Long Beach Race Week, Huntington Lake)?
I will do Huntington. Camping on the boat is good times!

Q: Anything else you’d like to see on this list?
I think for certain distance races class sail limits should be removed. Staysails, shy kites, and blast reachers are all important tools on very long distacnes races. Maybe say for races over 50 miles?

Thank you very very much Brendan!
  Will

I believe the popular plan was that each race we approve counts for the season series (we’ll figure out number of races to qualify and throwout schedule once the season is final). Long Distance races also count for a Long Distance trophy (ie, they count for the season as well).

The schedule below has approximately 2 events each month. July is a bit of a mess right now, but expect the Nationals to be held in July at Tiburon YC. Will is working on the details. It might be nice to get a TYC pre-nationals scheduled in mid June or right before the Nationals if possible.

September is light, but lots of folks race BBS, so perhaps that is OK.

Subject: 2007 Express 27 racing schedule - request for input

This first mail is just to solicit additional suggestions for the 2007 schedule. Below is a table showing the E27 schedule for the past four years as well as attendance (only counted starters of at least one race in each series). Races in bold showed solid attendance of 10 boats or more each year, and I would expect to have them on the schedule in 2007. Races in italics show good momentum and are likely candidates for the 2007 schedule. I will provide dates for all events in the next email.

If there are other races you think the fleet should consider for 2007, please let me know and I’ll add them to the list. Then I’ll send an email out for everyone to respond to which races they’d really like to do.

  Thanks,
  --brendan
