The district secretary says Santa Cruz qualifies as a fleet for the short course champs this year, so I hope you all can motivate and make a good showing. There will be a potluck afterwards and Emilio will bring wine from his vineyard. Yeah, its short notice being this Saturday 10/10 at Alameda Community Sailing Center but at least its happening. Let Stephen Aguilar know if you’re going so Roger knows how much jambalaya to prepare: sailsteve55 at gmail.com <mailto:sailsteve55 at gmail.com>

The NOR PDF is 150K and blocked by the list so David will work on that and you’ll probably get it tomorrow. I’ve extracted the text and pasted it here:

2015 SPRINT COARSE REGATTA
&
D24 Fleet Short Coarse Championships
Saturday October 10, 2015
Alameda Community Sailing Center
http://www.sailalameda.org/ACSC/
NOTICE OF RACE
1. RULES
1.1 This regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing for
2013-2016.
1.2 1.2 Racing Rule 40 will be changed as follows: All competitors shall wear personal
flotation devices at all times when afloat, except briefly when changing or adjusting
clothing or personal equipment. Wet suits and dry suits are not personal flotation
devices. The "Y" flag will not be displayed.
2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1 The following classes are invited to participate: Laser Radial, Laser Standard and
Laser 4.7.
2.2 Class membership is not required for this event.
3. FEES
3.1 Entry fee will be $10.
3.2 Registration will be completed on the day of the race at ACSC.
3.3 Registration must be completed by 1230 Saturday Oct 10, 2015
4. SCHEDULE OF RACES
4.1 Sailors meeting at 1200 Saturday October 10, 2015.
4.2 The scheduled time for the first Warning Signal will be 1300.
4.3 No starts will occur after 1630.
5. BOATS AND EQUIPMENT
5.1 Rough compliance with the intent of the class rules is the spirit of this event. That is
hard to define so boats must be in compliance with the class rules, which is implicit in
1.1. Sailors are encouraged to be as loose with holding each other to compliance as
they are in their home short course fleets.
5.2 Protests for measurement violations will be held on Tuesday.
5.3 Laser class rules are here http://www.laserinternational.org/info/ilcahandbook.
6. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
6.1 The sailing instructions will be available by Weds October 7, 2015 emailed to the
District 24 website or by contacting the PRO.
7. COURSES AND RACING AREA
7.1 7.1 The races will probably be held outside the breakwater near the launch ramp at
ACSC.
7.2 7.3 Courses will use inflatable marks with a typical time of 20 minutes per race.
8. 8.0 PENALTIES
8.1 Any two-turn penalties are reduced to one-turn penalties. This changes Racing Rule
44.1.
9. 9.0 SCORING
9.1 Two races will constitute a series.
9.2 When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a score will be the total of all race
scores.
9.3 When 5 or more races have been completed, the worst race score will be excluded.
10. 10.0 TEAM COMPETITION BETWEEN D24 SHORT COURSE FLEETS
10.1 A high point competition between District 24’s short course fleets will also be scored.
This is intended to foster friendly competition between the fleets, which hopefully will
encourage each fleet to help its members grow their skills.
10.2 A short course fleet’s team score will be the sum of scores of each fleet’s sailors. Each
sailor’s score in the fleet team competition is 1 + the number of boats they beat.
10.3 Short course fleets must have at least 4 regularly scheduled events this calendar year
to qualify for team scoring. A yacht club junior program may enter as a team. Ad hoc
teams will not be scored to preserve the incentive for fleet growth.
10.4 Known qualifying fleets within District 24 are Lake Tahoe, Lake Washington, TISC,
Shoreline Lake, Santa Cruz, Belvedere Lagoon and junior programs. Any short course
fleets not listed are encouraged to join in.
10.5 Sailors may only declare one fleet affinity. Sailors must have raced at least once this
calendar year in a fleet to claim affinity with it.
11. PRIZES
11.1 No prizes. Just glory.
12. BOAT & TRAILER STORAGE
12.1 Please follow directions on site for the location of the boat park and trailer storage.
13. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
13.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See Racing Rules of
Sailing 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for
material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to,
during, or after the regatta.
