Express Sailors --

Most of you have heard that the fleet has lost one of its most influential
members and just plain good guy. I wouldn't be numbered among Gary's close
friends, none-the-less he has had a big influence on me. Reading that
Latitude article about Lightn'Up's race to Hawaii many years ago, got me
interested in the express, and eventually led me to join the fleet. Also,
hanging around RYC, it was impossible not to notice the frequent outings of
the Lightn'Up crew. The boat would be jam-packed with people, just going
out for the pure joy of sailing, and sailing the ultimate sailing machine,
at that. It was always clear that the folks out sailing on LightenUp were
having a great time and one suspects that Gary's attitude about sailing and
life in general was a big component of what made those outings so much fun
for everybody. Gary has touched the lifes of many of us in the fleet and
the sailing world in general. He will be missed; but he led a life worth
celebrating.

There are a couple of ways you can honor Gary and celebrate his life this
coming weekend.

1) RYC will be celebrating Gary's life, Saturday 4/14
12noon - 4pm. Bay cruise and spreading of Gary's ashes, led by LightnUp.
I think the plan is to assemble around noon in the RYC basin and follow
the LightnUp out to the bay.

~4pm to 6pm light appetizers/foold and no Host bar at the club to
celebrate Gary's Life

2) Get your boat out there and race in the Resin Regatta, then after the
races, stop by RYC to participate in the celebration of Gary's life. ~4pm to
6pm.

The fleet will be creating a perpetual trophy in Gary's name. If you have
any thoughts on that, let me know.

Cheers,
Mark Lowry
