we were thinking of doing some practice on friday afternoon/early evening around SC - so if anyone is there at that time and interested, we can get some fleet sailing going

I've been away from the computer all day and just got the string of emails. We'll be on the starting line with a boat load of fuel. Our plan is to go straight to Santa Cruz either in race mode or cruise mode.

Oops forgot to "reply all" first time around....

Thanks Nat and Patrick... still not sure what I'm going to do.

From the email chatter it looks like Witchy Woman is the only boat racing for sure. Is anybody else going to try to race?

Another option I'm considering is to show up to race and if it is looking too ugly, bailout and go to HMB. Would just be double-handed in that case, though.

I am also cc'ing him on this email, although he doesn't check email that often so the phone is your best bet. Thank you Patrick for your extremely kind offer.

OK, the Elise team just chatted about this - the feeling is that realistically plan B is what is going to happen (there was no wind in HMB the whole of yesterday) - and trucking down is preferred to motoring all the way down.

we will actually truck the boat down to SC in the morning and practice in the afternoon mark racing, taking advantage of hopefully a bit more breeze. One of the crew, Patrick, lives in HMB and is offering hospitality (showers/rest) for anyone who wants to stop over in HMB.

It looks pretty bleak according sailflow, until about 1 PM. Though I need to discuss this still with crew, I'm considering the following:

-- clearing the gate about noon on Friday, and sailing down to HMB, or motoring. Overnighting there.

-- Saturday start fairly early from HMB and hopefully sail to Santa Cruz (motor if it looks ugly). If anybody else is interested we could have an informal race from HMB (starting off the southern buoy of the south reef or wherever) to the Santa Cruz approach buoy ("mile buoy")

The wind forecasts generally look a little better for Saturday. The southerly is supposed to be completely gone by then.

Let me know if anybody else is interested in my plan B above. I will be away from email till about 1100 this morning, but reachable by cell 510.909.0859

apparently a lot of people didn't finish the HMB race, too light.

We may have even more motoring going on than we had originally anticipated ;-) maybe our start should be at HMB ;-)

All - here is the NOR for the July 3 ocean race to Santa Cruz. If you're planning to compete, please sign up online at the St.FYC website. We've arranged dry storage in Santa Cruz near the yacht club for the week ahead of the Nationals, and I'll follow up with the details on this as soon as I have them from the Santa Cruz Harbor Master. My understanding is at most this may involve a fee of $5 per day, per boat.
We expect to have the Nationals NOR finalized and out this week as well, so please stay tuned....
