Hi Everyone
I believe this email distribution included some V15 and Laser sailors who
keep their boats at TISC. Your fleets have been extremely supportive of
our programs, and I wanted to make sure everyone who could benefit from
this clinic was aware of it.
Please feel free to send to your fleets via your email reflector.
Regards, and if any questions please feel free to call me directly,
D-

*5:30*pm-8pm
**TISC will provide pizza and soft drinks starting at 5:30 pm for event
registrants. The technical overview will begin at 6:00 pm
SHARP, followed by demonstrations which may utilize event participants.
*Learn to Fiberglass!*
The Treasure Island Sailing Center, located at Pier 12 on Clipper Cove,
is sponsoring a hands-on "glass class," taught by TISC tenant Dave
Collignon.
This clinic will include a technical overview of epoxy resin, polyester
resins, gel coat and carbon fiber materials used to manufacture and repair
sailboats and sailing gear. Repairs to several common problems will be
completed following a technical overview, allowing participants to observe
best practices working with materials appropriate to the boat and damage
being fixed.
*During the seminar students will learn how to*
Identify the damage
Prep the area to be repaired
Mix and apply fillers
Apply fiberglass cloth and resin
Apply gel coat
*The following topics will also be discussed*
- Discussion of how UV cure resins can be used to expedite the repair
process
- Application of carbon fiber (if allowed by class rules)
The purpose of this event is to provide training to TISC tenants and
volunteers so they will be able to help with boat maintenance and repair
for the TISC fleet of Bugs, Optis, RS Ventures and J/24s. TISC tenants
will receive priority for this event. Sailors from other clubs are welcome
to attend as space permits.
To confirm your place at this August "Glass Class" please send an email to
daveg at onclippercove.com. Please be sure to include your full name, type of
boat sailed and boat location if other than TISC.
*Meet Your Teacher*
Dave Collignon, TISC Tenant and Melges 24 owner, will be the technician
for this seminar. He's in technical sales at Revchem Composites,
responsible for matching proper materials to customer applications.
