Hi Friends of TISC-
I hope your winters are all going well. We are finally starting to see
some more life around the center and its great to see some more people out
on the water. We are all looking forward to another great summer and we
hope you find some time to sail with us.
We are in the process of *hiring instructors* for our 2014 Summer Season.
We are lucky to be having a few instructors back for another season, but
we'll need to secure a few missing pieces before the summer starts. In
order to attract qualified instructor candidates with strong backgrounds
from interesting places around the country and around the globe, we need to
offer *housing options* for visiting instructors.
For anybody who has been a sailing instructor before, you will know that
these folks *don't do it for the money*. The kinds of instructors that
TISC seeks out for Summer Camp have plenty of programs around the Bay to
choose from, many of which offer better financial incentive than we are
able to provide. They apply to TISC because *they appreciate the work we
do* and they know that what they get out of a summer with a program like
ours is, in the end, *more valuable*.
I write today with an appeal: *Do you have room* in your house or
apartment, close to public transportation, in SF or Oakland/Berkeley? Want
to relive your early 20's vicariously through an enthusiastic TISC
Instructor? Would you be willing to* host an awesome instructor* with
undoubtedly great stories for 12 weeks *during the summer*?
For the right instructor, the relationship can be anything you would like
it to be; meals or no meals, queen bed or air mattress, lots of interaction
or little. Most host families usually find that they are more than happy
to cook for their guest, have him/her join on outings over the weekends,
etc., although *this is never required*.
Speaking from personal experience, my family was able to host an instructor
one year and it was one of the most memorable summers I had. The cultural
exchange that this facilitated was incredible for me growing up and I
appreciate it more and more as I look back. The instructor who stayed with
us is* a family friend to this day*, 8 years after his stay.
Instructors will be onsite from *June 1 - August 18*, although flexibility
is always appreciated. We are seeking families who live *close to public
transportation* specifically in *San Francisco and Oakland/Berkeley* to
facilitate an easy commute. If you have any questions or you would like to
talk more about what this might entail, please let me know. Please pass
along to friends or family who may be able to help us bring together the
best team on the Bay this summer!
Thanks for your support of TISC!
-Chris
