[Santana 22] Season Standings

Fellow Tuna Racers,

Thank you for your input Frank and your kind comment. ?There are a number of good sailors in this fleet and better than that, Corinthian sailors that adhere to the rules and a great camaraderie. ?

I have attached a spreadsheet showing the season cumulative?scores with one throw out per half as I believe we agreed to do at our pre-season Pineapple Sails meeting to determine the season winner. ?It seems like that was just yesterday! ?I thought we agreed that we would have two half season winners with one throw out race per half to 1) encourage people to come out for the second half because you started anew for the half, and; 2) to send two boats to the Champion of Champions regatta if there were two different half winners. ?I think we also agreed that if there was a single winner of both halves, we would still send the first and second place boats to the CoC to have a better chance of winning the CoC in an S-22.?

Frank - will you sail in the CoC as the first half winner, white sails?

Are there boats that still plan to sail the YRA Season closer? I do.

Tom

Racing Friends,

???? It's definitely Tom. His cummulative score for both halves is one point lower than ours, and he did beat us in the last race on Sunday, which by the way was a great day of racing. So congratulations to Tom, who I think is an excellent sailor.

???? Also, I very much appreciated?that Jan and Tom told us all about their downwind techniques. This is definitely an area that I hope to improve in next season.

????? Cheers,

???????????????? Frank

???????????????? Tackful?

Dear friends,

?

I am sorry I have been unable to race with you during the second half of our ODCA series.? A?commitment to sail aboard the Cal 40, Azure in the StFYC Big Boat Series, including a couple of HDA races as practices leading up to that event, that fall on the same days as our series races,?has been my?obstacle.

?

In any event, my recollection of what we agreed to at our pre-season meeting was that our plain sails season would be split into two halves, that prizes would be awarded to the winner of each half and that if two different individuals won the two halves, both would go to the Champion of Champions Regatta but, unlike last year, the overall ODCA winner of our Class would not be determined there but, would be determined by who's cumulative score for the half season they?won, was lowest.

?

I am not certain?about what we agreed to concerning the Season Closer.? Though Saturday of it should consist of course races that could be sailed with?just plain sails by our Fleet, if we chose to, doing so and counting the results would mess with the math concerning what boat won what half with the lowest points because it would result in more than five races being counted per half, given one throw out.

?

I suggest that the Season Closer not be counted in our plain sails series.? We may have discussed doing it as part of our Spinnaker Series or having separate awards for it; either remain options.? Jan has suggested bottles of wine be awarded to the?top three or four boats competing in the?Season Closer, as an example of how this might be handled.

?

What follows is my calculation for the two halves of our plain sails?season, including one throughout per half:

?So, if you accept my logic, our plain sails season is over and wow, Frank and Tom both won a half, each ending the half they won with seven points!? Now, a tie breaker is usually decided by who has the most lower scores but, the both have 3 bullets and two seconds after a throw out.? Even considering the throw out, they both discarded thirds.? Pretty amazing.? My knowledge gets thin here; I have never had to look this far to determine a winner.? Jan and I have spoken on the subject and he tells me that, in such cases, the individual to beat the other in the last race of the series, wins.? If this is so, that makes Tom the winner as he, conveniently if this is correct, beat Frank in the last race of both the first and second halves.

?

Frank and Tom, given your interest in the issue, do you know of anything different from what Jan has told me?? I have honestly not had an opportunity to research this but, should there be any disagreement or controversy over this, I will.

?

Warm regards,

?
