I switched to a Honda 2 HP,32 #,Long shaft, air cooled so don't need to run in fresh water after, use weights. Easy to takeoff for racing. This is in Santa Cruz, may not be enough power for SF Bay.

The motor, fuel and (if necessary) ballast together must weigh not less than 50 and not more than 125 pounds.

Keep in mind that the class rules require the motor to weigh 50 lbs, or to have corrector weights. Our old Johnson 2 stroke 6hp weighs just over, and pushes the boat really fast. Heavy to take off the back, though. A 4 stroke is heavier, so you may get to the same weight with a new 4HP

Hi Michael (and Tuna group)
Thanks for the tow the other week. I'm thinking it might be time to retire
the 30yr old 2-stroke and plump for a nice modern outboard. You looked to be
using a fairly low-hp motor on yours.... 4hp, or was it less?
Any recommendations on buying outboards that would work well for a Tuna?
James
