[Santana 22] A Fun Weekend of Great Pumpkin Racing!

Hi Everyone,
It was a fun weekend of racing indeed!

We decided to go down Raccoon Straits first.  We made good time off the start getting to Angel Island, then we sat of the shore of Angel Island stuck in the ebb, a mere 150 yard from getting around the point and into the Straits.  After taking about 45 minutes to go about 75 yards, a number of power boats wakes pushed us back another few hundred yards and then we were drifting back at over a knot.  This is when our pumpkin floated to us :)

Since we were traveling backwards we made the decision to turn around and head around Alcatraz first,  We made great time to Alcatraz and back to Raccoon Straits before the wind died again, and it was about 3:45 when we got through Raccoon Straits and made the decision that there was no wind at all and we wouldn't finish in time.

Good to race with everyone, I hope to see you all out there soon!

#yiv2122771816 p {margin:0;}We decided to opt for the world series instead of bobbing around Racoon Staits any longer.  Did they extend the time limit?  Pipsqueek had a nice lead going into Alcatraz but cut it to close and got caught in the washing machine and wind shadow. One of the tunas cut inside the restricted bouy at Angel Island, don't think it made any difference but hey read the SIs.
Here's our track. (see attachment)

Alegre (#5132) finished just under the time limit.  A half and hour earlier, Spitfire was ¼ mile ahead of us when they decided to head home.  We had a great time this weekend but also learned that a VHF radio is a “must” for this type of event.  (We didn’t have one.)  Thanks Derrick for coming around and introducing yourself at the end of the day.

Hi

It was great to see so many Tuna's out on the water this weekend!  Thank you for coming out to play!

Did any Tuna finish the race yesterday?  We were undecided on which island to round first....... our first thought was to head down Racoon, but the water looked so mirror like....... so we decided to follow the little bits of wind we saw after the start until we got to the "no turning back point"....... Nice light breezes through the slot and round the rock until we hit AI........  We DNF'd about 4:30 close to South Hampton!

Hope to see you all again soon!
