Fwd: My Treatment Status
Here's that latest from Bob. All of our thoughts and prayers will be with
him the next few months.THE NUDGE would like to suggest that the
Presidents/Leukemia Regatta be officially dedicated to him and his recovery. How
about it Pat and your fellow officers?

Subj: My Treatment Status
Hello Everyone,
I have good news. The search turned up five confirmed donors in the
nation-wide database of people who are willing to donate tissue for bone marrow
transplants. After extensive testing both I (the recipient) and my
anonymous donor have been cleared for the procedure. So, tomorrow (Sunday, August
23), I will be returning to John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore to start
the procedure itself. This is still something that is quite radical and
risky, but it offers real hope of curing (which means eradicating) my leukemia.
I am hoping that the fact that five donors are available means that they
were able to select someone who matches me pretty closely. Please keep me
in your prayers; I will need all I can get in the coming weeks.
Assuming all goes well, I expect to be in the hospital for four to six
weeks. Thereafter, I will extensive restrictions on my activities, including
avoiding contact with crowds because of the risk to me of infection. Even
after I get released from the hospital it will take some time for my white
cell counts to return to a safe level. At the very earliest I might be out
and about with normal activities in late October.
I should have access to email even while I am in the hospital. I am not
sure about how well my cell phone will work; reception varies depending on
which room I am in.
Peace,
Bob Bear
