The Canadian National Disabled Sailing Regatta is being run out of Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club from August 31st to September 4th. There is a real need for sailing companions - people with sailing (and preferably racing) experience who accompany the disabled sailors. The "sailing companions" don't sail the boat but are there in case the sailor gets into physical difficulty. There are two fleets; a Gold Fleet where the sailors are highly accomplished (national champions / paralympic sailors) and the companion is just that and a Silver Fleet of less experienced sailors who may benefit from some coaching (hence racing experience is desirable).
Volunteers are needed. The challenge is that the need is during the day and many people are, of course, working. Students and retirees are obvious candidates but, hopefully, others might be prepared to take a day off and have some fun. It would most certainly be appreciated! The need is really on Tuesday through Friday but help on just one day would be greatly appreciated. These guys can't sail if they don't have a companion and while some are bringing their own from other provinces many are relying on local volunteers.
