[Santana 22] Fwd: 2008 YRA Calendar ad proof - ODCA

Well, I got Carlos for 3500 including lots of good old sails (Pariah used one of them to beat me in Nationals, remember), a motor and a trailer, though that was 7 yrs ago. I still think one can get a race-ready boat for 3K, but one probably needs to spend at least 5K (and a lot of one's own labor) to get a Nationals-winning boat.
How about we don't try to tell people how much to pay for a used boat, just let the "Best Bang for the Buck on the Bay" speak for itself.
If you want to add an extra line of text, how about "24 boats at Natls in 2007"? Sort of a challenge to Monterey/Santa Cruz to beat us in '08.

BTW apologies to all about the amount of email traffic we've had lately, what with winter series getting finalized and trying to wordsmith our main outreach vehicle I think it has got a bit out of hand. I suggest in future that for fleet 1 decisions we could send out the "first call" to everybody (i.e. Pete's email with the ad proof), and then discuss only among the active Fleet 1 members. Just using all the folks who have weighed in in the past week would be a good start at defining that, onyone else who wants to join in would still get the initial email, and if we always include the thread they would get updated if they joined the discussion later.

(So please don't reply to the entire list about this!)

Jan Grygier
Carlos
P.S. I have a cold, probably won't make the race today but will try out a new electric outboard and give a report later.

I agree, $3000 is unrealistic. It devalues the truly race ready boats.

Sounds good. But make it 5K to give us wiggle room. A full set of sails cost $3K.

OK. I think we are pretty much in agreement here. The ad will be run. Do we want to modify it at all? "Race ready boats for under 3k?"

I agree that the ad should appear.

Any feedback on this? It appears that we have a relatively short period of time to get back to Lat 38.

I am not 100% convinced that this is the best way for us to spend our money.

Thoughts?

Pete
