[Santana 22] Great Pumpkin - 5 boats and counting (Oct 24-25)

Hi Derek, Too bad you'll miss Pumpkin this year.
To clarify the "same body of water" thing, the class has sometimes
alternated Bay area with Monterey, then added Santa Cruz, and sometimes
moved around the Bay to different locations in consecutive years. While all
waters are connected, the Knox course and central Bay/TI course (what EYC
would use for Nationals) have different wind and wave patterns, and
different tidal influences; Bay sailors consider them "different courses",
whereas a Knox race run by CYC or SYC are the same course.

So my interpretation is Knox and Central Bay are indeed "different bodies of
water" as far as Nationals rules go. If the drafters had meant not hosted
by the same fleet twice in a row (entire Bay area is Fleet 1), they would
have said so.

But if anybody out there disagrees with me, please chime in!

Ditto, barring any unforeseen scheduling conflicts Aquila would race
non-spin (well, she would race spin if she had the equipment!)

We would have loved to race Great Pumpkin again this year (we had a blast
last year, everyone owes it to themselves to enter this regatta!) however I
will unfortunately be out of town.

As an aside, forgive my ignorance, but is the Estuary not considered the
same body of water as the bay? I ask because it was my impression that the
rules forbade racing Nationals twice in row in the same body of water. Not
that I was necessarily looking forward to towing my tuna down to Monterey, I
am just looking for clarification. Thanks!

Derek

Pariah would do the Encinal series if it's non-spin (except that the first
one conflicts with another sailing commitment). I agree it would be a good
way to visit the Nationals race track a few times.

Encinal Yacht Club has extended an invitation to the Santana 22 Fleet to
participate in the Jack Frost series this winter, which will be run in the
same racing area that the Nationals will be next summer. Applying the same
logic that led many of us to sail the Sausalito mid-winter series last year,
we might choose to accept Encinal's invitation this year. We could agree to
race spinnaker or plain sails.

We have 5 boats signed up for Saturday, so we get our own start - won't you
join us? What looks like mellow buoy racing with spinnakers (based on wx
forecast), followed by free beer and a fantastic party. Then wake up and go
searching for pumpkins (perferably with yours or someone else's kids) in the
Great Pumpkin Pursuit (race).

Go to www.richmondyc.org <http://www.richmondyc.org/> and follow the links.

BTW do we want to try for two winter series this year? Say Sausalito YC
non-spinnaker (Sundays starting Nov 1), and Encinal Jack Frost spinnaker
(Saturdays, around mid-month)?
