[Santana 22] Honda 2HP Motor for sale

My 3.5 Mercury, which is smaller than the 4 to 6 hp models has proved a nice compromise between power and weight. Though for a long haul I still use the 6 because it is more powerful and is line / external tank fed.

Good point. Motor plus fuel plus corrector weight must be between 50-125lbs. The problem with relying on the fuel weight (i.e. keeping enough fuel to satisfy the rule) is that it has to be in the aft lazarette which isn't helpful as ballast.

And yes, I like the extra hp too, motoring all the way from the Estuary (until we get out to the racecourse and have to do the motor dance)

I believe it is motor, fuel and ballast. So if you were to carry about 4 gallons of fuel, it would be sufficient.

I agree with Michael though, moving a 60 lb motor can be onerous, especially in a heavy breeze. However, the extra hp has gotten me out of some sticky situations, where I was stuck in a 4+ knot ebb by the golden gate with no wind.

Yes; class rules say the motor (and corrector weights) have to be minimum 50 pounds. So a 28 pound motor would need 22 punds of lead mounted down below (best place would be at the base of the bulkhead below the base of the mast compression post)

As a guy who has to wrestle a 50lb 6 horse up and down the companionway each time, a light motor plus a corrector weight sounds pretty good.

Do you have to carry ballast with a light motor?
