[Santana 22] Proposed 2016 Santana 22 Championship Series Season

What are the CBRA racecourses like?  Still W/L?  What other classes would we be sailing with?  One bummer with YRA sometimes is that we're with bigger/faster boats, so longer legs, so we have one loooooong  lap instead of several short laps

Hi all,
Thanks for putting this together, Deb.

I don't have a strong preference, but I don't think doing all 29 races would be a good idea. I've not heard of CBRA, do you know if they have good race committees? In the past few years YRA has been very receptive to our wishes, so if all is equal, I'd prefer to stay with them. Personally, I prefer central bay races so the CBRA option sounds good, but many people like the South Bay races.

For the past few years we did not include Big Daddy and Great Pumpkin in the series to keep the race season a bit shorter and give people a break between summer season and mid winters. Also, in this way we could do a Tuna Tune Up before the first race (Wheeler). Personally, I prefer this (because of skiing and having some time to do maintenance projects), and we have had good turn outs on the Great Pumpkin and Big Daddy with some different boats from the usual crowd.

So slight preference for #1, and not so stoked about #4,

Cheers,

Hi Racers,
We would love to get your input on the proposed schedule options. In the past, the Championship Series consisted of the BYC Wheeler Regatta and the YRA Spring and Summer Series (typically 15 races). In addition, this year we have been invited to join the Classic Boat Racing Association (CBRA) as well as the RYC Big Daddy Regatta; throw in the Great Pumpkin, and that's 29 races. For those who enjoy the slot, the CBRA schedule offers the most Central Bay options.
As a comparison, the Cal 20's Championship Series includes 29-31 races with 7 throw outs.
Before we commit, we would like to get your input on the schedule. (See the attachment for the races, dates and locations.) Below are some options. We need a minimum of 5 boats signed up for each to have our own OD start. We are seeing an increase in the number of participants, especially for Jack Frost... we have 13 boats signed up!!!! Yes, 13!! We would like to continue the momentum. Please take a moment and review the options, or suggest alternatives. Also, make a recommendation for the number of throw outs.
Option 1 - Wheeler Regatta and YRA Spring and Summer (15 races)Option 2 - Big Daddy, Wheeler, YRA Spring and Summer, Great Pumpkin (21 races)Option 3 - Big Daddy, Wheeler, CBRA, Great Pumpkin (17 races)Option 4 - Big Daddy, Wheeler, YRA Spring and Summer, CBRA, Great Pumpkin (29 races)
Option 4 is an enthusiastic schedule, but it has a lot to offer. The number of throw outs shown on attachment is only a suggestion. (This is the number of throw outs in the Cal 20 series.) If we increase the number of throw outs for this option, everyone wouldn't have to sign up for every regatta or series but could still be competitive.
Please provide some input and feedback before March 24. Our goal is to have the schedule posted by March 26.
Also included on the attachment is the newly titled "Long Haul" series; formerly the "Spinnaker" Series. It is anticipated that spinnakers will be used for these races; however, if a boat wants to do these races without a spinnaker, we can make an adjustment to the PHRF to make them competitive. Adjustment to be determined based on participation.
Please note, in order to be counted in the Santana 22 Championship Series, fleet membership is required and must be paid in full for the year.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Cheers,Deb FehrMeliki #5194Co-Fleet Captain
